3 Times To Have Your Locks Changed After A Burglary

You should take steps to make sure that your home is secure after a burglary. While some people don't think that they need to change their locks at this point, there are times when you should do this. When is this a good idea?

1. Your Burglar Damaged a Door Lock

If someone picked or forced a lock in your entry door to gain access to your home, then they might not have left any visible damage. Your key might still work in the lock, and the lock might look to be in good shape.

However, if someone tampers with a lock, then they can cause internal damage. You can't see this damage; however, it can cause problems in the future.

For example, the lock might have a damaged or weakened part. This part might affect the lock's strength. Another intruder might find it too easy to open.

Or, you might simply find that you can't open your door in the future. If the lock breaks when you insert a key, then you could be locked out of your home.

A locksmith can check your lock's condition. If they have any concerns about it, they will replace it for you. You restore your door's protection and avoid lock-outs in the future.

2. Your Burglar Might Have a Key to Your Home

If you can account for all your keys, then you might not worry about your burglar returning. However, if you can't find all your keys or can't remember how many you should have, then you might be concerned that your intruder might have a key that they can use to burgle you again.

You should check all your keys to all your locks. This includes window keys. Some burglars will take keys with them in case they do want to return.

If you have any doubts, then change all your locks. This is safer than having to go through another burglary.

3. You Don't Feel Safe in Your Home

It's common to feel scared and even violated after a burglary. After all, a stranger has come into your home and stolen things from you. You might worry about what would have happened if you'd been at home when the intruder broke in.

If you feel scared, then changing your locks will help. You do something tangible to make your home secure again. Your locksmith can also recommend upgrades that make your locks more secure. This gives you extra peace of mind.

To restore your security and feel safe at home again, contact a local locksmith and ask them to change all your locks.
