Preventing Unusual Burglar Break-In Methods To Your Home

The critical thing when trying to stop thief break-ins is to predict the less predictable forms of attack on your house. This way, you can counter them. After all, the more predictable forms are the ones that you probably already have answers for. Here are some unusual approaches to getting access to your home including what you can do to stop them.

Second Story Attack

Everyone knows to lock all entrances on the first floor. But, it definitely escapes people's notice sometimes to do the same thing for the second floor, especially if it's not obvious how a thief would gain access to the second floor. As a result, it's not uncommon to leave the windows on the second floor open.

The problem is that many thieves are resourceful when it comes to this type of situation. If you have a shed nearby to your house, they can climb on the shed and then jump over to the second floor. From there, it's easy for them to just slip in a window if it isn't locked. This is exactly why it's so important to make sure that you at least lock every entrance in your home. Ideally, you'll have security measures and monitoring for all entrances as well, no matter how unlikely it seems that someone could access the entrance.

Mailbox Slots

Many homes have a slot in the front door for mailmen to put in mail without accessing your house. All they have to do is push the slot cover back a bit and then slip the mail through. The problem is that many thieves can use this as well in order to accomplish their ends. They can fashion methods for getting hangers in through the slot in order to gain access.

This could be simply opening your lock to gain access to your house, or it could be getting your keys in order to gain access to cars in your driveway. The important thing is to make sure you add nets to your mail card slot so that mail can be placed in it, but nothing else can be shoved through the door.

This way, you'll ensure that no one can gain access to your house in a way that you don't expect. You're security cameras and alarm systems won't help as much with a smash and grab operation, especially if someone doesn't have to even get through the door to get items out.
